Ally’s Domain in Her Own Words

“I like my domain because it gives me a platform to put my work and thoughts into the world. Having a domain is a way of keeping a running record of all the things I’m doing and creating here at SNC––it’s kind of like putting the contents of my brain put on display. I love that, and I think it’s important that I have this domain because it lets me see how much I’ve accomplished. It also serves as a digital presence and portfolio that my future employers can look at once senior year/graduation rolls around. Instead of just looking at a resume that talks about what I’ve done in college, potential employers can look at my domain and see specific examples of my work and learning.”

“I really have been enjoying my domain! I designed my blog to be multifaceted. One of my blogs is to update my family on how college is going for me. And the other two categories are for academic purposes. I like how my domain serves as a reflection for school and my social life. I like having my own space in which I can show what I’ve learned!”

Cassie talks about her domain:

“My domain provides me a space to truly show my creativity in a place that is my own. Having my own domain gives me many options. Right now, my main site is a personal blog that helps me connect to friends and family back home and lets them know how I am doing. I also have a sub-domain with a blog about my work with the Full Spectrum Learning initiative. I am a freshman with a major in Computer Science and an emphasis in Graphic Design, along with minors in Media Studies and Mathematics. With my major, I would like to have a career in website design, so having my own domain in college can really help me while looking for a career. The other great thing about having your own domain is it widens the opportunities available. I have had experience in Adobe Dreamweaver in the past, but now am learning in WordPress, and can try many different options. In the future, I would like to expand my website into a professional portfolio for potential employers to look at.”

Natasha’s Domain in Her Own Words

“I am a senior gearing up to graduate in Fall of 2018.  I am a busy bee who likes to knit, read, and write–shocking for an English major.  The purpose of my site is to show off my personality and provide my resume to potential employers.  Inside the site, I include links to other websites and portfolios I created for classes to better show what I am capable of.  As I wind down my last few weeks at St. Norbert, I blog about my senior year experiences or “last minute musings”. Though it is only a senior year blog so far, I will adapt my blog to life after graduation as well.”

A note from Ingrid about her site

“I enjoy having a domain because it gives me a platform that I control. Social media provides a platform, but you have to do things on their terms. With my own domain I can have pages, blog posts, favorite pictures, even my resume all in one place! It allows me to truly control what I want my audience to see and know about me. I love having a domain!”

“I enjoy having a domain because it allows me to be creative and experimental with my writing. Since it is my domain, I am able to put anything I want on it. I enjoy adding pictures and gifs to go along with my posts. It also allows me to practice writing in different ways whether that is writing a persuasive post or an informational post. Having a domain has been great for me and my writing!”
